Scott Hanenberg teaches music theory and music technology at Virginia Tech and writes about rock drumming and uncommon time signatures.

Scott defended his PhD in Music Theory at the University of Toronto in 2018. His dissertation explores irregular meter in the music of Tori Amos, Radiohead, Tool, and others. Scott's research is published in Music Theory Online and Music Theory Spectrum; he has given papers at conferences across North America.

Scott has performed and recorded with The C'mons and has released an EP under his own name entitled Darn That Dream. Scott's recent recording credits include Hsiang Tu's Bestiary on Ivory.
